Meet Spiroula J
Award-winning designer. Industry mentor. A career built beyond aesthetics.
I’m Spiroula J, a Sydney-based, national award-winning interior designer, design consultant and mentor with more than 15 years of experience across interior design, construction, project delivery, business and industry leadership.
As the founder of FOS Collective and The Elite Interior Design Academy, my work now spans two connected worlds: helping clients make more informed design decisions and helping designers build more valuable, influential and sustainable careers.

Design was only the beginning.
My career has never existed within one narrow corner of the design industry.
Before founding FOS Collective, I deliberately built experience across interior design, architecture, construction, manufacturing, project delivery and business. I wanted to understand not only how a space was conceived, but how it was documented, manufactured, communicated, built and ultimately experienced. That journey has taken me through commercial, hospitality, co-living, retail, residential, education and media environments. It has included nationwide showroom programs, Australia’s first co-living development, work connected to Crown Sydney, Metro Martin Place, Mercure Hotels, The Block, Reno Rumble and Deadline Designs, among many others.
My project experience has also extended into manufacturing, production, supplier coordination and the realities of taking a design from an early idea through to execution.
Eventually, I founded FOS Collective and built it into a nationally recognised, award-winning design business. But the most important lesson I took from this chapter is that successful design depends on far more than talent. It depends on communication, leadership, commercial understanding, collaboration, emotional intelligence and the ability to make clear decisions when the stakes are high.
That belief now sits behind everything I do.
CAREER JOURNEY
01.
Learning every side of the industry
My early career was intentionally diverse. I worked across interior design, kitchen and joinery design, commercial environments, hospitality, manufacturing and construction, gaining experience from initial concept through to production and project delivery.
02.
Delivering high-profile projects
My project experience grew to include nationwide showroom design, television projects, hotels, workplaces, education environments, major developments and pioneering co-living spaces - including UKO Stanmore and project experience associated with Crown Sydney and Metro Martin Place.
03.
Building FOS Collective
I founded FOS Collective to create a practice grounded in inspiration, education and collaboration. The studio went on to deliver recognised projects across commercial, residential and retail environments while building a reputation for transparency, strong design direction and considered project outcomes.
04.
Expanding the impact
Today, my work has evolved beyond traditional design delivery. Through FOS Collective, I provide strategic interior design consultancy. Through EIDA, I mentor and educate designers in the professional, commercial and human skills that are rarely taught in formal education.

Secrets of the Construction Industry
The Unlearning
In my chapter of Secrets of the Construction Industry, I share a powerful reminder: never let your immediate environment or circumstances dictate your outcomes. Drawing on my own experiences, I explore how faith, resilience and the courage to break free from inherited fears can change the direction of your life.
Contributing to the industry
My role within the design industry extends beyond delivering projects.
I have contributed as a judge for the Design Institute of Australia’s Graduates of the Year Awards, an ambassador for women in construction, a speaker, podcast guest, published co-author, mentor and design educator.
These opportunities allow me to contribute to the conversations shaping the future of the profession while supporting emerging designers as they move from education into meaningful, sustainable careers.

Speaking and Panels
Design, career development, leadership, confidence, communication and the future of the interior design profession.

Workshops and Industry Education

MY BELIEF
Talent is only the beginning.
A strong designer must also know how to communicate, lead, listen, interpret and create value.
Good design requires clarity.
The best outcomes emerge when clients, designers, builders and consultants understand both the vision and the decisions required to achieve it.
The strongest work is collaborative.
No meaningful project or career is built in isolation. Transparency, education and collaboration create better people, better processes and better outcomes.
Behind the titles.
I am deeply ambitious, endlessly curious and unafraid to challenge the way things have always been done.
My Greek-Australian upbringing shaped my appreciation for family, hospitality, resilience, storytelling and spaces that bring people together. Those values continue to influence the way I design, teach, mentor and lead.
Outside the formal titles, I am someone who believes in speaking honestly, treating people with empathy and leaving every person, project and industry conversation stronger than I found it.
Where would you like to begin?
Whether you are planning a project, looking for senior design guidance, developing your career or seeking an experienced industry voice, there is a pathway to work with me.
